Moon Calendars

Hi All,
You should have seen your child's moon calendar come home yesterday. I hope they are excited about observing the moon each night. If the weather or other conflicts keep your son/daughter from being able to go outside then use the following web site to see what the moon looked like so that they can still complete the assignment. Enjoy the "moon gazing"

Change in Spelling/Reading for Week of Sep. 7th

Next week we will be exploring the sun, moon, and stars. Our reading, science, spelling, and writing will all by tyed to this science unit. You'll see the science book replace the reading book and it'll go home on Tuesday with a reading bookmark. Because we are integrating our studies next week, our spelling list will be DIFFERENT than what you have at home so I'm sending home the list for next week tomorrow (Friday, Sep. 3). The list has been added to Spelling City and can be accessed from home to practice spelling. Click the link on the left side of our blog, select "find a list". About a third of the way down the page you need to enter a search item "kintner". When the teachers pop up, click on Mary Kintner.

Additionally, the final spelling test will remain on Thursday but there will not be a challenge list this week.

Reading Logs AND other important forms

Your child should turn in his/her completed reading log on Monday. They will bring home a new one for this week.

Also, please look over the yellow information form that went home in Friday folders last week. Make any necessary changes then sign and date the back side of the paper. The office would like to have them back as soon as possible.

And finally, I sent home a small yellow form about the Highlights Magazine. As I explained to the class, even if you choose no to purchasing a subscription, sign the form and return it with the "no" option chosen and we can still earn prizes for our class.

I appreciate your efforts in going through your child's Friday folder each week. Please keep the graded work at home unless there is a paper to correct or forms to return.

WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR

We've begun a new school year together and I'm excited to have each and every one of you as parents and partners in your child's education. Our first week has come to a close and I'm hoping that your child has had a great one! We have spent some time learning about each other with some getting to know you activities. Ask your child what we did with toilet paper... (I'm afraid they were slightly nervous when I pulled out the roll).

I sent an email to everyone that I had an email address for and I'm hoping to hear back from everyone soon to ensure that I've put in accurate email addresses and that our path of communication is open.

Homework:
You should have seen spelling pages come home this week as well as some math. Some students were able to complete the math during our "study hall" time at the end of the day but I asked them to take it home anyway in hopes that you get to see it and get an understanding of what we are working on in math. You will continue to see these things as well as a reading log (they'll get on Monday), and a reading bookmark with their reading book on Tuesday. Remember that the time it takes your child to read for the bookmark can be added as reading minutes to their reading log.

Assessments:
We will continue some beginning of the year assessments next week and the following week.

Friday Folders and grades:
You child took a few things home in his/her Friday folder yesterday. In it was their spelling test for this week and while I graded it so they could see how they did, I did not put it in the grade book as we were just getting a feel for third grade. There are other papers however that I'll get graded this weekend and they will be in next week's Friday folder. But like I mentioned, you may find smiley faces for check marks on some just due to adjustments to school and new curriculum.

Have a super weekend!
