We will be having a Valentine exchange on Thursday, Feb. 14th so your child will bring home a class list on Friday in his/her Friday papers. It is completely optional, so please don't feel obligated to participate. If you do participate, please adhere to the healthy food guidelines and don't send candy in with the cards as I'll have to either send it back home or eat it myself:) We'll exchange Valentine's at some point before lunch!
Additionally, please watch for information from our room parents regarding the Valentine party that same afternoon (if you've already gotten information, please disregard this).

Time line Project
Please look for or ask your student for the half-sheet of orange paper today. It is information about the time line we will be working on in class but we need some help from you. I'm copying the note in case it just doesn't make it home to you.
2nd Grade Time Line Project
After studying time lines for Johnny Appleseed, Martin Luther King Jr., and others, your child is going to make a time line of his/her own life. But, we need your help for this project!
Each student will create a time line of 10 important events in his/her life (birth, lost first tooth, took first steps, started kindergarten- first-second grade, etc.). For this project, your child will need:
Þ 10 pictures (the picture can be a photo of the event, an illustration done by the student of the event, a computer image of the place (i.e. Disney World), etc.) Each picture will need to be dated.
Þ Please be sure your child knows enough about each picture to be able to write a short description of what is happening for the timeline (this will be done in class).
Þ a poster board-should be at least 22 X 28 and can be any color.
Gather and send in all materials on or before Tuesday, Jan. 22nd. If you have questions please let me know.
Thanks!

Back to Normal
Yes, we are back to all the good stuff! We'll be reading The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash and with that we'll have a spelling list with a tic tac toe as well. We'll also end this week with the Unit 6 math test so you'll see a study guide go home on Thursday.
Looking ahead:
Even though next week is a 4-day week, we'll read the next story in our reading series and have a spelling list. The tic-tac-toe will only reqire two days of practice work though.

Service Learning Project at Brown
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Brown fourth and fifth grade
students will once again collect shoes in conjunction with the Hendricks County
Solid Waste Management District’s “Recycle Heart and Sole” shoe recycling
program. We are planning to collect used
shoes for reuse February 11 through February 15.
We hope to keep worn shoes out of
our landfills, while at the same time, helping those that are less
fortunate. Last year, along with other
schools in the surrounding area, we collected about 7,000 pairs of shoes. We hope to collect even more this year.
Just have your child bring in used
shoes placing them in the shoe collection containers in front of the main
office. It’s just that easy. The fourth and fifth grade students will do
the rest.
Thank you for helping the fourth
and fifth grade Brown students with their service learning project.
