2nd GRADE SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT-only 2 weeks.....

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

The 2nd grade team would like to ask you to help us with a service learning project that we are undertaking for the US Navy sailors that will be deployed this holiday on the USS Truman (Mrs. Adams’ son is on this aircraft carrier).

We would like to participate in an effort called “Navy for Moms Holiday Project” to send goodie bags to the sailors who will be away this year during the holidays.  Below is a copy of their flyer and a list of acceptable items. We are also accepting any monetary donations to help with shipping costs.  Students may bring in any of these items up until Fri., Nov. 1.  We will have opportunities for those students who would like to help assemble the bags during a couple recess times the beginning of November.

Thank you for your support in this project!

                                                                                    Sincerely,
                                                                                    The 2nd Grade Teachers

Navy for Moms Holiday Project

The group is attempting to send 8,000 goodie bags to servicemen and women that will be deployed during the Christmas and Holiday Season.

Below is a suggested list of acceptable items:

Loofas-the guys liked them as much as the ladies
Travel size hygiene items-shampoo, conditioner, body soap, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, etc
Slim jims/beef jerky
Personal size packages disinfectant wipes
Sugar free gum
Candy(not chocolate)
Chapstick
Individually wrapped snack crackers, Oreos, animal crackers
Fruit snacks
Granola bars
Writing cards
Hot cocoa packet/individual coffee packets
Mio/individual powder drink mixes
Sandwich size baggies
·         This is just a list of suggestions. Any kind of individual item will be very greatly appreciated
·         Items that DO NOT fare well are any large bottles of shampoo, lotion, hand sanitizer (they leaked and soaked into the candy and other items. Also, any shelled pistachios or sunflower seeds – the shells are a hazard to the jet engines.

We will be shipping all the bags out the beginning of November to the USS Harry S. Truman. We need to have all items and money collected by Fri., Nov. 1.   THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!

  1. I love this project! It's one near and dear to my heart too, as my brother in law leaves tomorrow to go Serve abroad with the Army in Jordan.
