This year in Media Center Special your child will...

 

·        Be encouraged to check out books within their lexile range

·        Listen to 12 books from the Young Hoosier Book program and vote for their favorite (a statewide reading program)

·        Learn how to take a Reading Counts quiz

·        Learn how to search the online library catalog using pictures

·        Identify the table of contents, index and glossary of a book

·        Learn how authors and illustrators work together

·        Understand the alphabetical arrangement of books in the library

·        Distinguish between fiction and nonfiction

·        Learn how to use a dictionary

·        Enjoy author studies of Mo Willems and Dr. Seuss among others

·        Understand characters, setting and sequence of stories

·        Learn about biographies and poetry

·        Have the opportunity to participate in The Book Swap (Spring)

·        Understand that folk tales are very old stories passed down

·        Learn about Caldecott medal winning books

·        Understand the difference between print books and e-books

·        Participate in library stations

·        Learn how to open and save documents

·        Explore MS PowerPoint and create a slideshow

·        Explore MS Publisher and create a document

·        Learn the importance of Internet safety

·        Understand how to print a document

·        Learn how to access the Internet and type in a web address

·        Play age appropriate online games to strengthen and support computer literacy and keyboarding
