Clothing Needed for Brown Clinic

Kindergarten is once again collecting clothing for the Brown clinic. Students who spill something on them, have an accident, or otherwise need a change of clothing often visit the clinic for a change of clothing. Unfortunately, many of the clothing items do not get returned to the nurse after being lent to a student. They are collecting gently used (no holes or stains please) or new items to stock the clinic.

  • Our clinic's top need is boys clothing: all sizes but especially sizes 10-16

  • New packages of underwear or socks: all children's sizes (all underclothes provided by the clinic must be brand new and does not need to be returned to the clinic)

  • Boys or girls pants, shorts, and shirts sizes 6-16, regular, slim, and husky

  • Jackets

  • Mittens and gloves

You may bring clean clothing to donate to school the week of May 2-13 and place in boxes located outside each kindergarten classroom. If we receive more clothing than our clinic can store, they will donate the excess to other Brownsburg school clinics or to Goodwill. Thank you for supporting kindergarten service learning!

Weather Weather Everywhere!

Wow, what a week of weather, inside as well as outside! Our study of weather went past the science text book when we made mini tornadoes in bottles on Friday. The week concluded with a reading of "Thunder Cake" by Patricia Polacco and actually tasting thunder cake. It was very good (even with tomatoes in it) and without the frosting and strawberries. The recipe can be found online on the author's website.

Field Trip

Permission slips went home last week. Please return them with the $2 fuel charge by Friday, April 22nd.

Also, I'd like our class to wear their light blue t-shirts that PSG provided to us for the Dog Dash. Some students have theirs in class already so no need to look for those. Thanks Parents!

Service Project Update

We have had some really great things donated so far. Please continue to send in items through the first week of May. The biggest area of need is still onesies, socks, infant toys, rattles, or other age appropriate items (0-6mths).

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!!

Poetry Unit

We'll be wrapping up our poetry unit in the next couple of weeks. The students have been working really hard and writing some awesome poetry-congrats to those students whose poem will be published in the "2011 Young American Poetry Digest". We have typed some of the poems and others will be handwritten and then compiled into a poetry book. Each student will make his/her own book and the week of ISTEP is when we'll be decorating them. I have mentioned to the kids that they can bring in any scrapbooking supplies they wish to make their books special to them. If they bring in supplies to share that is great too. I'll have some things, but they love to bring in things that are unique to them. They are also welcome to bring in a picture to put on their dedication page.

The Rest of April

The rest of the month may look a little different than usual. We are beginning to get into the craziness that IS the last 6 weeks of school. While we have lots of "added" things in our schedule we must keep in mind that there is still learning that must take place. I typically have to remind the students of that quite often these last few weeks. They have grown so much this year-I can't believe they are almost 4th graders! Today, I sent home a spelling list for next week that is made up of all word wall words. The week after that we won't have a spelling list. For the next couple of weeks we will be using our science textbooks during our reading block. You'll also see these come home with the reading bookmark.

Shaving Cream in the classroom

Who would have thought that shaving cream could be useful in the classroom. We'll try this again soon!
