As Our Year Comes to a Close

I will be sending home a folder this week that has a printed label-2nd grade- on the front. Please ask your child for this on Tuesday or Wednesday. Included in the folder are some different writing pieces I've kept throughout the year as well as other little projects and fun things your child made for our bulletin board. More imporantly are the completed data form, a recommended reading list for your child at his/her new lexile level, and a summer reading calendar. I'm going to go over the summer reading calendar with the students before they take it home, but basically, they have a goal to read 500 minutes over the summer and if you sign it for them and they return it to me at the start of next year, they'll earn something special from me. It's my way of offering an incentive to keep students reading over the summer. The calendar also has an activity printed on most days but these are just ideas for when "boredom" sets in and they do NOT have to be completed in order to claim their incentive for reading 500 minutes.
