Our Week....and next week:)

Writing: This week we have been focusing on prewriting. During ISTEP the kids will have a 55 minute writing block where they are given a prompt to write to and it is so important for the kids to understand the value of prewriting to organize their thoughts. Next week, we will be working on what do we do after the prewrite. The best thing you can do for your child to help them prepare for this is look over any of their writing that comes home and discuss with them wishes and stars. Where could they have been stronger in their writing piece? Did they do any editing before turning it in? Is it on topic? Did it make sense and engage the reader? These are just a few guiding ????s
Spelling: This week our pattern was double consonants. We have been told that many of the questions on IREAD will be skills like beginning, middle, and ending sounds in a word so please work with your child on their spelling lists by focusing on the sound pattern of the week.
Science: Next week we will do a mini animal research project. This will be an in class question and answer activity. Many of the kids will want to research at home and this is wonderful. They will just need to bring in any of their research to school. Not required!

Important Dates

Math Test next Friday for Unit 7. Please practice multiplication with your child.

Spelling Test – Thursday and Reading Test Friday

IREAD state testing will be March 19^th.

4H presentation during specials next Friday.

Final round of acuity before ISTEP will be math- Wednesday, Feb. 8^th and reading – Wednesday, Feb. 15^th.

Brown Bonanza is Friday, Feb. 17^th. More information to come.
