Next week is a short week and we will wrap up our class novel Squanto. What an interesting, true story of Squanto's life leading up to the first Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims. I'm enjoying seeing the students' enthusiasm as they ask to read it at home or beg to read one more chapter at school. Maybe this will be the book that sends some children down the reading path for many more years-how exciting!
Due to the short week, we will not have a spelling list.

Scholastic Book Orders and Christmas Book Exchange
There's a chill in the air and Christmas trees in windows already (it's not even Thanksgiving) which means the holiday season is quickly approaching-ready or not!
You should have seen a Scholastic Book Order come home with a red letter attached which shared with you our holiday book exchange. Please let me know if you have any questions or cannot participate so that I can help out. I want to ensure there is a book for everyone!

SPELLING for the week of Nov. 15th
This is just a reminder that we will not take a pretest this Monday nor will we have challenge words this week. We will spend a lot of time in the computer lab with the keyboarding lessons this week, not to mention we are trying to finish the novel we started last week-Squanto.
Be ready for the spelling test on Thursday!

Parent Teacher Conferences
I want to thank you all for taking the time to meet with me this week about your child's progress in third grade. I need your support as much as your child does! Thanks for all you do.

October Top Readers
The October totals are in and my students did a great job of reading at home during the month of October-to the tune of 9,744 minutes.
Our top 3 readers for the month were McKinley with 1,651 minutes, Elise Black with 945 minutes, and Garrett Vail 872 minutes.
Look for Pizza Hut coupons to come home this week for all those who read at least 300 minutes during the month of October.
Keep up the good work Scholars.

Student Work
Now that the first quarter of school is behind us, your child should be feeling like he/she has a stable routine at school and most likely at home. With that, late papers and no name papers should be coming to an end, however, they are not for some students. From this point forward, students will lose 10 percent as they turn in papers a day late and will also lose 1 point for not putting his/her name on their paper.
