They Have Names
After a long process of brainstorming, listing, condensing, and voting our hermit crabs finally have names. The larger one is Spikey and the smaller one is Hermie. There were some very interesting names that came from our brainstorming session. For example, Billy Bob Joe, Jack, Smokey, Herman, Michelle, and Mover. I don't know about the class but I sure am happy to have a name for these guys.

Brownsburg History Projects
We've been working on these in class. However, if your child wants to find some cool pictures to add to his/her work, go to www.brownsburg.lib.in.us. Once there click on adult services and at the bottom of that drop down menu is "local history", click on that. Scroll down the screen until you see Brownsburg: then and now. Click on that and there are thousands of pictures. For some reason this site is blocked for us at school but this is the site we've used in the past to complete these projects.
Feel free to print any of the pictures and your child can bring them to school and use them to complete the project. We will be working on them Wednesday so please try to have the "extras" to school by then.

Top Readers for August
We have begun our journey to successful reading in 3rd grade. While we do a lot of it in school, we expect students to be reading at home as well. Our goal is 75 minutes per week. I'd like to take a moment to recognize the 3 readers who went above that goal and had the most "at home" reading minutes for the month of August, (remember it was just half of a month). McKinley took first place with 395 minutes, Elizabeth came in second with 285 minutes, and Allison read 265 minutes to complete our top three!
Great job readers, keep up the good work.
At home reading total so far: 4,127 minutes

Coming Up
Just a quick note to remind you that we'll be reading Allie's Basketball Dream next week. I discussed this with the class on Friday, but just in case that information didn't make it back to you. We'll also use the spelling list that accompanies that story.
The following week, we are scheduled to read Olympic Games; Where Hero's are Made but we will skip that story and its spelling list.
Turn in those reading logs tomorrow:)
